Tips For a Quick Move

Are you starting a new job in two weeks? Expenses have been piling up and need to sell your house fast? Whatever reason you need to move out of your home quickly, you’re probably under a lot of pressure to pack up. Packing up an entire home can be stressful and overwhelming under normal conditions, so if there are time constraints, you need as much help and as many expert tips as possible. At Legacy Investment Group, we want to help out in any way possible.

Our team wants to buy your home in Anne Arundel County. For whatever reason, and whatever condition the home is in, we can help. And even though we won’t physically help you pack up your kitchen, we can offer some suggestions to help the process go smoothly and quickly.

Start Slow

This may seem counterintuitive, but starting slow and looking at the big picture will help you keep things organized throughout the packing and moving process. Make a list of everything that needs to be done, such as buy boxes and supplies, and rent a moving truck. Then, make a list of each room and all of the bigger items that are more difficult to move. Making a list beforehand will ensure that everything is covered and that you have all of the supplies you need ahead of time.

Sell or Toss What You Don’t Need

Organizing a garage sale can be time-consuming as well, so if you don’t have time for that, you could simply donate items you don’t use to a charity. Regardless of what you do with the items, you wouldn’t want to spend time packing things that have been sitting in the closet for years. The key here is to think practically about things. If you have an old blanket that carries a sentimental feeling, but it’s dirty and smelly, it might be time to say goodbye.

Wrap Carefully

It’s easy when you’re in a hurry to simply toss things into a box and call it good. You’re just going to be unpacking them in a day or two anyway, right? Well, this may be ok with items that aren’t breakable or hold any value. But for any fragile items, or things you don’t want to get scratched, it’s important to take some time to wrap these belongings carefully.

Non-Packing to-do List

Other than packing, there are a few miscellaneous things that need to be done too.

  • Forward Your Mail: This doesn’t take long and it’s incredibly helpful. When you arrive at your new home, you don’t need to worry about missing an important piece of mail.
  • Change Your Address: For important accounts, like your bank account, these should be changed right away so you don’t rely just on the mail being forwarded.
  • Transfer Utilities: The last thing you want is to still be paying for electricity for a home you don’t live in anymore.
